What YourSnippet is

YourSnippet is a Chrome extension that lets you mark specific moments ("markers") or short ranges ("snippets") in YouTube videos while you're listening, with optional notes and tags, so you can find them again later.

What we collect, and where it lives

Your markers, snippets, tags, and notes are stored locally on your device, in Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). We never see this data, and it is never sent to our servers or anyone else's — it stays on the browser where you created it.

If you sign in with Google (optional): we use Google Sign-In to create an account. This lets you raise your storage limit and keeps your library available if you use the same browser later. We store, on our servers (Google Firebase / Firestore):

• Your email address
• The date you first signed in

That's it — we do not store your markers, snippets, tags, or notes on our servers, even if you're signed in. They stay local to your device, same as for anonymous use.

Why we collect your email: to know who is using YourSnippet, so we can occasionally reach out (product updates, asking for feedback) — not for advertising, and never sold or shared with third parties.

Usage analytics

The extension logs a few usage events (for example: "the extension was installed," "you reached your free storage limit," "you created an account," "you created a tag"). These events are kept locally on your device (chrome.storage.local) and are also sent to PostHog, an analytics service that processes them on our behalf on servers located in the European Union. We use them to understand, in aggregate, whether the product works — nothing more.

Each event contains only:

• The type of event (e.g. "storage limit reached")
• Simple counts or flags (e.g. how many saves you had at that moment)
• A random installation ID — a UUID generated the first time the extension runs and stored on your device. It is not derived from your Google account, your email, or anything about you, and we cannot use it to work out who you are.

These events never contain your email or identity, the content of your library (no video titles, no notes, no tag names), or your YouTube watch history.

What the extension can access on YouTube

While you have the extension's side panel open and are on a youtube.com video page, the extension reads the video's ID, title, and current playback time — only to let you mark moments in that video. It does not read or collect your YouTube watch history, account, or any other page content.

Third parties

• Google Sign-In / Firebase — used to authenticate you and store the minimal account record described above. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• PostHog — used to receive the anonymous usage events described above, hosted in the EU. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
• We do not use any third-party advertising SDK inside the extension.

Your choices

• You can use YourSnippet without ever signing in — no account, no email collected, everything stays local.
• You can export your local library and events at any time (backup button in the extension).
• You can sign out at any time; this does not delete your local library.
• Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data from that browser.
• To request deletion of your account record (email + sign-up date) from our servers, contact us at legal [at] yoursnippet [dot] com.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
